| Burj Al Arab or Arabian Tower Hotel |
Burj Al Arab or Arabian Tower Hotel is the ultimate symbol of Dubai's determination to be a world-beater. The stunning property has already become an internationally recognisable landmrk and has the distinction of being declared the world's tallest hotel. Burj Al Arab's sail shaped structure, which soars 321 metres above the Arabian Gulf, is taller than Eiffel Tower Paris and just 60 meters shorter than New York's Empire State Building.
Burj Al Arab scales new heights of luxury, introducing new levels of comfort with its superlative standards of acomodation and service in its suites. leisure facilities and restaurants. Built on a man-made island lying 280 metres offshore, the hotel houses 202 duplex suites, which are both spacious and lavish, with the personal services provided by private butlers.
The hotel offers the guests a feast for both the eyes and the plate. From the highest point of the hotel right doown the sea level, the restaurants locations are as impressive as the creative menus. Whether the guests are looking for a healthy snack or the best in haute cuisine, the six Burj Al Arab restaurants have perfect answers every time.

The stunning Assawan Spa is inspired by the architecture of ancient Arabia. Facilities include exercise equipment, indoor swimming pools, Jacuzzi and a seperate reserved area for ladies.
There are not enough superlatives in the world to adequately describe the extravagant and outrageous nature of the Burj Al Arab Hotel ('Arabian Tower'). Yes, at 321 metres (1,053 feet) it's the world's tallest hotel and, yes, it's the planet's only seven-star (albeit an honour that the Burj Al Arab bestows upon itself - international recognition stops at five) but nothing quite prepares you for the obscene affluence of its interiors. Set on its own island just off the coast from the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the Burj's sail-like structure has become the definitive icon of this city - architectural wonder and cultural statement, it is to Dubai what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris, what Big Ben is to London.
The hotel is owned by Jumeirah International, which also counts in its portfolio the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Jumeirah Beach Club, Emirates Towers, Madinat Jumeirah (due to be completed in December 2004), and the Carlton Tower Hotel in London. Guests are picked up at the airport in one of a fleet of ten white Rolls-Royces and driven to the door across a bridge that shoots jets of flame to acknowledge the arrival of a VVVIP. A triumphant waterfall awaits in the lobby, which is flanked by floor-to-ceiling aquariums so vast the staff have to don scuba gear to clean them. Gold leaf covers almost every surface and huge golden pillars reach up into the atrium: greens, reds and blues all vie for prominence in a colourful reminder that style in Dubai is as much a case of volume as it is of taste. Everything is just as expensive as it looks; lavish decadence to satisfy those who can shell out Dhs3,850 a night for a duplex suite (the standard room).
Blatant sightseers are frowned upon and, away from the lobby, privacy is the order of the day. No floor houses more than 12 suites, and personal butlers cater to your whims round the clock. The spacious suites spread across two floors, with a staircase spiralling up to the sleeping quarters. This is very much a taste of modern Arabia: expect a printer, fax machine, scanner, internet access, wall-to-wall speakers and a 42-inch plasma screen TV.
The hotel that dominates so many photos of Dubai itself offers tremendous views. The best look at Dubai's coastline can be had from the restaurant Al Muntaha, suspended 200 metres (656 feet) above the Arabian Gulf (its name translating roughly into English as 'the highest'). And the Burj boasts the exclusive Assawan Spa & Health Club, also overlooking the sea. Be warned: treat yourself to a stay here and you may be reluctant to leave, the real world being too rude an awakening after such magnificence. If your budget won't stretch but you still want to take a look around, you'll be charged Dhs200 to set foot inside, but this can be redeem against food and drink. Truly a one-off.
