Dubai Bazaar - The Islamic Souq at Dubailand
A traditional Islamic souq, Dubai Bazaar, will be built near the main entrance to Dubailand.
The two-million square-foot site will include musical and artistic attractions.
A UAE-based business house, the Leader Group, will develop the project for Dubailand at an estimated cost of Dh500 million.
The signing took place at the Dubailand office, and was attended by Abdul Raheem Tayeb Al Awadi, chief executive of the Leader Group, and Salem Bin Dasmal, chief executive of Dubailand.
"We believe the Leader Group will build one of the finest structures in Dubailand. The Dubai Bazaar shall be a pleasure to visit, browse and shop in," Bin Dasmal said.
Al Awadi said the Dubai Bazaar would be the first traditional Islamic market place of this magnitude in the region.
"Not only will it be located in a development that is likely to see a 200,000 strong footfall per day, its size of two million square feet will set it apart from any other similar facility in the region or even the world.
"The planning and design of Dubai Bazaar is a celebration of a great tradition. The Islamic architectural design of the Dubai Bazaar will capture the true spirit of traditional Islamic marketplaces. Among the countless attractions will be several musical and artistic activities, where groups from all countries of the Muslim world will be invited to participate," he said.
The Leader Group will hold a project launch by the end of the year to present the plans, perspectives and the different phases of the project.
