Gas Processing Capacity of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) Goes Up
ABU DHABI - The rise in domestic consumption of power and the growing demand from the petrochemical industry has led to stepping up production of natural gas that is expected to reach a capacity of 4 billion cubic feet per day by next year.
Yousef Omair bin Yousef, Secretary General of the Supreme Petroleum Council and CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), noted that the total onshore gas processing capacity has increased from 1.4 billion cfd to 5 billion cfd and will further be augmented to reach 7 billion cfd by the year 2008.
He listed among major works the Onshore Gas Development Project Phase III which will process 1.3 billion cfd gas extraction of condensate, LPG and ethane, the Arab Gas Development Project Phase II which will extract natural gas liquids to produce LPG and ethane and the new Third NGL Fractionation Train in Ruwais that will double the processing capacity.
Outlining future projects, he said that the expansion of fertiliser capacity, the setting up of an aromatics complex and a melamine unit are among the projects currently under study.
This is besides the project for the expansion of the Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge) at Ruwais, that will entail an increase in product volumes and support the development of a new logistics scheme whereby the delivery time will be reduced from the current 30 days to less than seven days.
The capital port Mina Zayed will also be developed to handle the additional volumes of polymers. Proposals are being studied to establish research and development facilities to support the business expansions.
Studies are also at a conceptual stage, on an offshore-onshore gas processing link, the project serving to provide Adnoc additional flexibility in the utilisation of the gas processing capacities in the light of the emirate's no-gas flaring policy.
