Countdown to Dubai Summer Surprises begins
DSS Organising Committee unveils schedule of the 10 theme-specific weeks at their final meeting prior to the start of the event on June 22.
Heads of the Dubai Summer Surprises Organising Committee unveiled the plans of their respective theme weeks during their fourth and final meeting held at the Grand Hyatt today prior to the launch of the summer event on June 22. The meeting, attended by DSS officials and the media, presented the main highlights of the 10 theme-specific weeks and what's in store for residents and visitors throughout the 73 days long event.
Headed by Saeed Al Nabouda, DSS CEO, the meeting was attended by the 17 heads of the Organising Committees from various Government departments responsible for sponsoring the special theme weeks. Presiding over the OC meeting Saeed Al Nabouda said, 'The aim of the meeting is to inform the media of the latest organisations and the calendar of events before the festival starts in 10 days time. The media plays a very important role in delivering, spreading, and marketing the event among all segments of the society in an honest and objective way. It is important that there is cooperation between the Government departments and the media but also with all the other sectors that play a crucial role in the continuous success of DSS year after year. We hope and wish that all visitors to Dubai enjoy DSS 2005 with its new look and many events,' he said.
The OC meeting was attended by Ahmed Abdul Kareem, Head of Flower Surprises Committee, Dubai Municipality (22-29 June), Shaikha Ebrahim Al Mutawa, Head of Sweets Surprises Committee (Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, 30 June-6 July), Lt. Col. Jassim Abdul Ghafoor, Head of Arts Surprises Committee (Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department, 7-13 July) and Nuha Safar, Head of Colour Surprises Committee (Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry 14-20 July.)
Also present at the OC meeting were Abdullah Al Hajiri, Head of the Ice Surprises Committee from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (21-27 July), Abdullah Khamis Hareb, Head of Adventure Surprises Committee, Dubai Port Authority (28 July - 3 August) and Head of Heritage Surprises Dubai Customs (11-17 August), Hala Lootah, Head of Cartoon Surprises Committee that is organized by Department of Health and Medical Services from 4-10 August, Major Mohammed bin Dylan, Head of Knowledge Surprises, Dubai Police (18-24 August), and Amal Al Hammadi, Head of Back-2-School Surprises Committee organised by Development Board (25 August - 2 September.)
The Heads of the Organising Committee of DSS from other Government departments at the meeting included Mohammed Helal, Head of Department of Economic Development Committee, Aisha Al Kash, Head of Islamic Affairs Department Committee, Rehab Lootah, Head of Dubai e-Government Committee, Abdullatef Al Gergawi, Head of Dubai Media Committee, Abdullah Al Najjar, Head of Civil Aviation Committee, Abdul Aziz bin Hareb, Head of Land Department Committee, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Al Sayagh, Head of Civil Defence Committee.
An informative question and answer session between committee members and the media followed the announcement. The meeting saw a good attendance by the media, who were nevertheless impressed by the exciting schedule of events for DSS 2005.
The ten week DSS 2005 begins with the Flower Surprises on June 22 and continues with the Sweets Surprises, Arts Surprises, Colour Surprises, Ice Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Heritage Surprises, Knowledge Surprises and concludes with the Back-2-School Surprises on September 2.
