Arab Human Development Report Truth Summit
Datamatix announced today that it will organize the Arab Human Development Report Truth Summit on the 13th March, 2005 in Dubai, UAE.
The summit takes up interesting and controversial issues associated with the 'Arab Human Development Report' published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The Arab Human Development Report Truth Summit aims to bring out the truth behind the making of the report. It examines the motivations behind creating the report, its recommendations and the possible short term and long term impacts the report will have on the Arab world. The event is designed to be interactive with open discussions and debate sessions, exposing participants to a wide range of differing viewpoints on the report.
Announcing the summit, Kamali said 'The event aims to unearth the truth behind the Arab Human Development Report and whether it is biased or not. The summit will be an opportunity for people in the region to learn more about the report and share their opinions about it.'
The Arab Human Development Report provides a detailed description and critical evaluation of the economic, demographic, social and political conditions in the Arab region. Although it has been applauded by the western media, the Arab Human Development Report has drawn criticism from several intellectuals in the region. It is charged with presenting a biased and lopsided view of the Arab world; focusing more on the regions failings rather than its strengths.
Speaking about the event, Ali Al Kamali, Managing Director, Datamatix said 'Many Arab people feel that the report does not reflect a true picture of their region and that it presents an unbalanced view of the Arab world. This event will bring together officials from the UNDP, Intellectuals, Critics, Government officials, Media etc. to critically examine and discuss the Arab Human Development Report.'
